The final stop on the Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour brought the players down South to the historical Breakers Resort in Palm Beach for the last event of the year. Wendy and Lorne Abony started the weekend off, hosting a wonderful Havana Night theme cocktail party for the players at their home in Palm Beach, always a fun filled opportunity for old friends and fellow competitors to get together.
After being driven to the tennis facility in Bentleys courtesy of Braman Motorcars Palm Beach and enjoying lunch, players hit the courts for the first afternoon of competition. Four teams emerged as top contenders after the first day of play: Brian Reynolds/ Jared Palmer, Andrew Gazdik/ Rick Leach, George Norcross/Prakesh Amritraj and Russ Gerson/David Pate, all unbeaten in their first 2 matches.
With the stately Breakers Resort in the background, participants gathered on the croquet lawn for a cocktail party under the stars followed by a spectacular dinner in The Gold Room of the Breakers.
Following lunch the next day, tour players prepared for the final day of the event. After two more rounds, four teams found themselves in the two sets of finals. The first featured Brian Reynolds, a victor in three past events and partner Jared Palmer against Russ Gerson, a first time competitor and David Pate. David unfortunately injured his knee in a previous match, and sadly had to withdraw before competing in the finals.
In the other final, another first time competitor, Andrew Gazdik and partner Rick Leach, lost to a former Palm Beach champion George Norcross and Prakesh Amritraj in a thrilling match 5-4, a tie break deciding the outcome at 4 all.
Congratulations to all the players! The two days of matches featured exceptionally entertaining tennis for all of the spectators.
As can be seen from the final standings on the leader board, Joel Pashcow and Brian Reynolds have emerged as the two Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour champions for 2009 with Sam Herzberg sliding into third place. Both Brian and Joel were honored and awarded their trophies at the PCF New York dinner, featuring the legendary Andrea Bocelli, at The Plaza.
On behalf of The Prostate Cancer Foundation, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the players that competed around the country at the PCF Tour events, The Charles Evans Foundation, as well as, all of our sponsors: Movado, Cliff Morgan and Gamma-O, Babolat, Braman Motorcars Palm Beach, Nespresso, Herschel Bonchek, Thorlo and Menaji Skincare.
