With the fourth tournament approaching, players headed south to sunny Palm Beach and the Breakers Resort for the final stop on the 2015 Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour. As in many of the past events, Joel Pashcow graciously hosted a fantastic meet and greet cocktail party at his wonderful waterfront home in Palm Beach.
On Saturday, long time sponsor, Braman MotorCars Palm Beach, again transported all the players to a lunch at the Flagler Steakhouse, before hitting the courts for the first two rounds of competition. By the end of the afternoon's play and unseasonably hot weather, Eddie Dibbs/Jonathan Schneider, Larry Leeds/Aaron Krickstein, George Loesch/Alex Bogomolov J.R., Bill Finneran/Graydon Oliver, Marie Bernstein/Vince Spadea, Joel Pashcow/Amer Delic, Bob Bales/Don Johnson, Jerry Katell/Rick Leach, Bob Stiller/Scott Davis and David Jacob/Daniil Proscura all emerged as strong contenders to win the event after the first day of play.
A glorious south Florida evening greeted players and guests, who were then treated to a Mediterranean feast on the ocean front lawn of Mei Sze and Jeff Greene’s spectacular Palm Beach estate.
On Sunday, following a barbeque lunch and a doubles exhibition between Murphy Jensen, Don Johnson, Scott Davis and Rick Leach, players headed for the courts for the final 2 rounds of the pro/am. Despite another unusually hot afternoon, the competition continued and it became evident that George Loesch and his pro Alex Bogomolov J.R., a recent top 30 singles player, were going to reach the finals to compete against Eddie Dibbs and Jonathan Schneider. Eddie, playing as the amateur, was a former top ten singles player in the late seventies but for this pro/am competed as a left hander! Alex and George, the 2015 national grass courts amateur champion and last year’s Palm Beach champion went on to defeat Eddie and Jonathan in the first final. Our second group title match featured David Jacobs and Daniil Proscura, playing in their first final against another first time finalist, from California, Jerry Katell and legendary doubles player, Rick Leach. David and Daniil ended up defeating Jerry and Rick in a fiercely contested match. Congratulations to our champions and all the teams for surviving the heat and providing 2 entertaining days of tennis.
As can be seen from the final standings on the leader board, we have our 2 tour champions of the 2015 Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour. Bob Bales with strong performances in Greenwich, the Hamptons and Palm Beach wins the title for the first time. Joel Pashcow, a multiple winner in previous years, in a close battle with Arik Kislin and Marie Bernstein for the 2015 tour title, returns as the other tour champion. Both are long time supporters of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Congratulations to the champions and the other players for not only providing spectators with so many great matches on the 2015 tour, but also for your generous support of the foundation and the pro/am tour.
On behalf of The Prostate Cancer Foundation, I would like to take this opportunity to thank, one more time, all the players that competed around the country at the PCF Tour events, The Charles Evans Foundation, as well as all of our sponsors: Movado, Mei Sze and Jeff Greene, The Tidelines Ocean Resort and Spa, Joel Pashcow, Babolat, Braman Motorcars Palm Beach, JFI Jets, Cote de Chic Event Management, Thorlo, and Margaritaville.
Wishing everyone the very best for 2016 and looking forward to seeing you on the tour!
