PCF pro/am tour players headed out to the desert for the 8th year in spectacular Indian Wells, CA, signaling the start of another exciting year of PCF pro/am competition! Participants met in the VIP center court suite on Friday evening for the traditional meet and greet cocktail party, as well as to view the evening matches of the BNP Paribas Open.
Following the first day of competition at the tournament site, everyone gathered in the suite for lunch and a fantastic afternoon watching the two men’s semi-final matches of the BNP Paribas Open. Year after year the world’s 5th largest tournament provides fantastic matches and yet again failed to disappoint with Rafael Nadal, David Goffin, Novak Djokovic, and Milos Raonic entertaining and delighting the sold out stadium with amazing tennis in unbelievably hot, desert conditions.
On Saturday evening, Jane Morgan, formally Mrs. Jerry Weintraub, graciously hosted everyone at her fabulous home in Big Horn. The evening was highlighted with a touching tribute to Jerry Weintraub and his amazing life. Guests were treated to a sit down dinner on the terrace with sweeping and moonlit views of the golf course and skyline.
Perfect weather conditions greeted everyone on Sunday morning for the final two rounds of the pro/am. After completing the round robin matches, the first final featured last year’s finalist, Kern Schumacher and long time PCF tour pro partner, Scott Davis, competing against veteran Indian Wells amateur Dick Merkin, and Indian pro, Rohan Bopanna. Dick and Rohan went on to defeat Kern and Scott giving Dick another title to add to his long list of former victories over his past 18 years of competition.
The other final featured two Spaniards. Fernando Sartorius and pro, David Marrero, playing against first time finalist, Marie Bernstein, and pro Robert Kendrick. In another great final, Fernando and David defeated Marie and Robert giving Fernando his second title in a row!
Following the trophy award ceremony and lunch, participants watched the BNP Paribas women’s and men’s finals. Victoria Azarenka defeated Serena Williams in the first match and Novak Djokovic defeated Milos Raonic in the second final.
Congratulations to the winners and finalists for providing exceptionally entertaining tennis for all of the spectators.
The 2016 leader board features Fernando Sartorius and Dick Merkin leading, followed closely by Marie Bernstein and Kern Schumacher.
On behalf of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors: The Charles Evans Foundation, Movado, Alerion, Babolat and Herschel Bonschek.
